Today was the day.
I started this “challenge” early this year when I was feeling lost and alone. I had arrived in a big city where I didn’t know a soul and had to adjust to a new job and new team on fairly short notice.
All the change combined with an unexpected breakup left me feeling pretty distraught.
There where many choices I could have made but I decided to try my best to be resilient and take the time to figure out exactly how to be alone (synonymous with independent, who knows?)
52 different hikes. 7 different states. 3 different countries.
Nature was my saving grace. Always rewarding my efforts with breathtaking scenery and endorphins to make me feel at ease. Nature taught me to how to be happy and embrace solitude. Nature helped me adapt to my new environment while offering me an escape when I needed it. Nature encouraged me to be brave and face many fears.
Nature was my teacher, my healer, my guide and my encouragement.
A special shout out to all my friends who kept me company on many of these adventures and to all the new friends I met along the way, I appreciate you all.
Here’s to my mom, who rang in #52 with me on a 9 mike hike up to iceberg lake. You never want to see a grizzly with two cubs off the trail but that is exactly what happened today. We didn’t turn back. We made adjustments to our expectations and charged on. #52hikechallenge
