You'll be amazed how many items can fit inside a Salvation Army cleanup kit! Inside that bucket survivors will find a broom, mop, sponge, bleach, work gloves, face mask, all-purpose cleaner, trash bags, and a squeegee to help start the cleanup process.

The Salvation Army in Pasadena, Houston, ministers in a community that was significantly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. At the height of the storm, individuals and families with nowhere to go were brought to The Salvation Army in dump trucks seeking shelter and assistance. Captains Luis and Marianne Villanueva were there to receive, help and comfort more than 200 people who came to The Salvation Army in their time of crisis.

Linda McDowell served in the Victoria area for 14 days with the EDS team from Granbury. This team consists of volunteers from the Women's Service League and local Service Unit. “Our team was a praying team," said Linda. "We would pray in the truck that God would guide us, pray as we prepared the food, and were always ready to pray with those who came to us for help." In the first two months of response efforts more than 57,000 individuals received prayer from a Salvation Army staff member or volunteer.

More than 92,000 comfort/hygiene kits were distributed by The Salvation Army to those affected by the storm. To survivors who have lost their homes and many of their possessions, the provision of life's basic necessities can mean so much.

Joe evacuated as the flood waters continued to rise. Water eventually reached 6 inches from his roof. After several months in a hotel he got to move back home and started the grueling work to repair and recover. "The Salvation Army was out there right from the beginning with food, drinks and cleaning supplies. I had no idea that they would still be around to help me months later. Working with the caseworker was great and I was so impressed with The Salvation Army. She understood my situation and the process was smooth and easy,” said Joe. “I was able to get $1,000 worth of building materials and appliances. I had lost just about everything and so this help was great.” #hurricaneharvey #harvey #harvey2017 #survivor #oneyearlater #thesalvationarmy #salvationarmyeds #disaster #hurricane #hurricaneseason #respond #helpaneighbor #doingthemostgood #dtmg #canteen #tsakerrville #emergencydisasterservices #volunteer

Corporate partnerships are important to the success of The Salvation Army disaster response efforts. Keller Williams was recognized with the "Hurricane Harvey Partners Award" after their agents worked in Austin with local emergency managers and businesses to gather supplies and raise money to support relief efforts. Additionally, Keller Williams cancelled their annual conference in Austin and sent the more than 3,000 attendees to affected areas to work in relief projects.

In 2013, Polaris donated 10 Utility Task Vehicles (UTV) to The Salvation Army in the Southern United States. These UTVs dramatically increase the effectiveness of The Salvation Army's mobile feeding operations, extending the reach of our larger vehicles. Polaris donated additional vehicles in support of Hurricane Harvey relief operations making it possible to navigate narrow streets covered with debris, power lines and abandoned vehicles.

While providing food and supplies at an apartment complex, The Salvation Army Emotional & Spiritual Care team met a precious lady named Rosalinda, who spoke with halted speech as she introduced herself. She had suffered a stroke and heart attack only two weeks prior and her heart was functioning at only 14%. As the team loaded supplies and food into her vehicle, Rosalinda shared her inspiring testimony. The team was moved to tears as she told of God's goodness to her throughout her struggles. "I believe that God writes your life. I don't let anything get me down. God allows you to go through storms to make you strong. This is my storm, but this is also my season." #hurricaneharvey #harvey #harvey2017 #survivor #oneyearlater #thesalvationarmy #salvationarmyeds #disaster #hurricane #hurricaneseason #respond #helpaneighbor #doingthemostgood #dtmg #canteen #tsakerrville #emergencydisasterservices #volunteer

The Earthquake Bag team and other volunteers always needed to celebrate at the end of the each long work day that we were one day closer to getting the residents back into their home. The goal is for the homeowner and her family to move back in by this Sunday! Seeing the joy on her face each day was priceless!

Could you imagine not being able to live in your home after a disaster for almost a full year? 🏡

One year ago exactly we hit the road to what would be the biggest life changing experience I had ever walked. In 96 hours, with nothing but an Idea and a voice in the community @aw_yumad and I planned and executed the best donation drive of our Lives. Part 1 was getting all the supplies. Part 2 was the quick delivery of it. And it was one of the most incredible experiences, but nothing in the world would ever come close to the satisfaction and acknowledgement of the #hurricaneharvey victims. The people I met, the interactions we had and the incredible feeling of being there for someone made all the difference in my life. I’m thankful god put us in position to do what we did, and deliver everything. And I’m grateful to have the relationship with our local community to bring together such greatness. #trueblisscustoms #trueblisscustomsforharvey #harvey2017 #werejustaverageguysdoingaboveaveragethings
