This morning I decided to draw a card from the Spiritsong Tarot by @paulinacassidy to guide my intentions for practice. In this deck, The Moon is represented by an owl, which guides us to see wisdom, follow your intuition, and let creativity flow. I also decided to draw a card from a yoga flashcard set by @108yogalove I pulled Ardha Bhekasana, or Half Frog Pose, which I will build my practice around.
Pulling cards is a wonderful way to switch up your practice if you feel like youโ€™ve fallen into a rut. Itโ€™s also perfect for beginners who may not be comfortable sequencing poses together or who would like a picture with tips to follow.

Prompts included... how do you show love to yourself? Iโ€™ve gotten so much better at this over the last few years. I try to figure out exactly what my body wants to perform optimally, and do my best to give those things to my body every day. Yoga, nutritious food, rest, time with my mini. Adding graduate school work into an already crowded mix of responsibilities and goals makes it harder, but Iโ€™m determined to make it work (meaning... consider it done). My favorite place to take myself on โ€œdates,โ€ and my favorite place to be, in general, is the beach. No matter what else is going on around me, being under the palm trees nearest the heart and soul of the Earth makes me feel happy and at peace. Iโ€™ve moved closer and closer to the ocean, but I havenโ€™t actually visited in at least several weeks, if not a month. Maybe Iโ€™ll throw that on the agenda as a little self-love treat this weekend after teaching and taking my first patho exam ๐Ÿ’œ

So Iโ€™ve not been around much these last few days, skipped out on a few challenges too. I donโ€™t know just the thought of sitting on my phone staring at IG was making me angry.. I took all my photos up until yesterday as I far too busy cooking up a romantic meal and what not, to be able to do yoga but just generally I really havenโ€™t wanted to engage on here at all. Guess I just needed to give myself a little space.

Anyways I was looking at some of my pictures for a few challenges Iโ€™ve taken and have decided to try and catch up on the one or two that finished yesterday just as I like the photos too much to not post ๐Ÿ˜‚ but I think I might be taking a break shortly after. This week is a hectic one.. valentines yesterday, my birthday tomorrow and then Sunday thereโ€™s a carnival so I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll be around much this week after this catch up.

Day 12 of #iowaopenheartchallenge is frog...or half frog. I tried both and my body needed half. Tonight I chose to reset my mood and go to hot yoga instead of tidying up my house. Seeing the fuzzies in the foreground of this pic makes me think I still made the right decision ๐Ÿคฃ #cleanhousesareoverrated But regarding todayโ€™s #iowaopenheartchallenge, I donโ€™t know that Iโ€™ve ever really tried this version of #halffrogpose before. It really changes the focus of the stretch and feels a little gentler than full frog. Another one I should do more often ๐Ÿ˜ƒ #ardhamandukasana

There are definitely poses I love to do and I tend to favor those in my practice. Lately though, I have been all about the backbending. Letting all the emotions surrounding the postures rise up...Judgement, fear, jealousy, etc., notice them, come back to my breath, try to let go and then give gratitude for what I am able to do and the progress I have made. I then go through all this again the next time. This is a very slow process and has been a true practice of patience and acceptance for me.
Sometimes in life all we can do is just trust, relax, let go and breathe. Namaste.
