YES IRELAND!!! 🇮🇪👏🏽 #repealthe8th won by a landslide!!!!! I am so, so relieved 🙏🏽 Despite this though, it still feels like a strange thing to celebrate - this isn’t something women WANT as a luxury. We’re not out here raising champagne glasses to “ending lives” you know? It’s the most horrific, gut wrenching decision that ANY woman can face. I end up in tears within seconds from even THINKING about being in a situation where I would have to consider an abortion. No one WANTS this, it’s not a want; it’s an absolute necessity.
Whilst the vote has allowed legality and safety, nothing takes away the emotional trauma, the guilt or the pain. I feel like it’s so important to remember that.
The mind boggles that in Western Europe we even had to have this vote but I’m truly glad it has finally happened. In memory of beautiful #Savita who lost her life due to being denied an abortion in Ireland. She wasn’t planning to have an abortion, she was pregnant & keeping it but sadly had a miscarriage. Sadder still doctors made her endure the miscarriage for 7 days rather than giving her an abortion (as the baby wasn’t going to make it anyway 😔) and it led to sepsis that took her life - all because of the 8th amendment. It always hurts my heart that humans seem to need something to go wrong before they will wake up to do what’s right.
Sister Savita may you always rest in peace and women of Ireland I truly breathe a sigh of relief for you 🙏🏽🇮🇪
