And now for something completely different _________________________________________
An unused - as far as we can tell - Czech gas mask from the 80s with its MOF-4 filter and carrying bag, all in good condition. There was a massive arms deal between Egypt and the Czechoslovakia in the 50s courtesy of Nasser. Egypt bought around $250 million worth of Soviet arms, a bold move given the political situation at the time. The Czech arms deal, many would say, is what accelerated the oncoming war between Egypt and Israel and was definitely a big **** you from Nasser to the United States. But the filter of this particular mask is dated 1988, so we're not sure how this one got to Egypt. By the time the 80s had come around arms shipments and sales to Egypt by the Soviet Union had been suspended and it was around this time that the Soviets started delivering arms to Syria, their relationship now deepening. Could this mask have made its way to us from another Middle Eastern country? It's hard to say where it came from after leaving Czechoslovakia, but we do know for sure that it's from the 80s. One source says that this particular model was intended for civilian use, could this be a clue?
