Today, as I walked through Central Park, I saw this beautiful expression of commitment in a service of matrimony that both made me pause in gratitude for how far our community has come and ever more aware of how much work still lies ahead. This wasn't a "lesbian wedding" but rather two consenting adults professing their love and commitment to each other and respected by the very government that they pay taxes and elect to represent them — who just so happen to be a lesbian couple! The hard fought fight for marriage equality made that a reality and that same fervor that landed us marriage equality must be channeled by all of us to eliminate the unconstitutional LGBTQ discrimination in housing, education, and employment!
The truth is that any LGBTQ couple can get married on a Saturday and fired and evicted on Monday. This is unacceptable and this election you better be damn sure I'm voting for another 8 years of preserving the Obama legacy — the very legacy that landed millions of LGBTQ Americans the right to be treated equally in their fight for marriage equality — and continue that fight until we achieve full equality. A better, more equal America is on the ballot. Choose wisely! #loveislove #imwithher
