What fun at @waltersfruitranch on Green Bluff today! .
Spent a productive morning gathering strawberries for freezer jam that will last us the next 12 months! The kids will be happy with an endless supply of sweet jam and I’ll be happy for a couple other reasons. .
1. Hello money saved! At 2.15 per pound + the few other costs associates with canning, we’re saving quite a bit.
2. These berries will never touch plastic or any other chemical or obesogen. .
If Obesogens is a new term for you, (it was for me until my naturopath informed me about it) it means foreign chemical compounds that disrupt normal development and balance of lipid metabolism, which in some cases can lead to obesity. Aka every plastic product, including those with BPA & without. .
I’ve been trying hard to reduce plastics in my home and purchasing straight from the farm is one of the best ways to do it! I’ll be freezing my jam in glass mason jars. (Stay tuned for the post all about it!) And just remember before balking at freezing glass... that’s what everyone use to us before plastic was invented, and it works just fine given you allow enough head space in the top of the jar, and that you give the contents plenty of time to cool before placing in the freezer. No dramatic temperature fluctuations and you should be a-okay! 🍓
