Eregion (or Hollin) was located near the West Gate of Moria.
It was known for having good relations with dwarves, trading freely with them.
Eregion was originally ruled by Galadriel and Celeborn until they left to Lothlorien.
It then was ruled by Celebrimbor, son of Curufin.
Annatar soon came to Eregion, and befriended Celebrimbor and helped him make 16 rings of power.
Celebrimbor secretly made three rings that were never touched by Annatar.
When Annatar revealed himself as Sauron, the elves of Eregion were ashamed and tried to hide the rings from Sauron.
They failed, and were only able to hide the three Elven rings: Narya, Vilya, and Nenya.
Sauron attacked Eregion during the War of Elves and Sauron.
Sauron and his forces destroyed Eregion, leaving only a few survivors who fled to Rivendell, Lothlorien, or Lindon.
During the War of the Ring during the Third Age, the Fellowship happened upon its ruins. Only a few holly trees remained as a remainder of the once glorious realm.
