From Managing Director Paula Ferrari. "Reminiscing today and came across this pic of me speaking for the first time in public about female genital Mutilation in Australia. This was at an event co organised by myself, Sybil Williams, Khadija Gbla, and the Sydney Feminists, supported by Vivienne Strong from the NSW Education program on FGM. I was so far out of my comfort zone it wasn't funny, but just desperately and urgently needed to get the message out there that we all need to be the voice for the little girls at risk( est. 3 girls a day born here are at risk), and to draw attention to the immense struggles faced by survivors of FGM living in Australia (est. 83,000). Now "No FGM Australia" is a fully government endorsed national charity and not-for-profit providing doing primary research, creatung resources, running information sessions, lobbying government, and daily taking calls and emails to support survivors and protect girls at risk. We have got so much work to do but it's great to reflect on how the conversation on FGM has grown over the past 3-4 years since Khadija Gbla first told her story in 2013 as a survivor of FGM and we connected with a mutual aim of stopping this practice."
