“No One Fights Alone”
This Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 9am-11am, Skate Rising will be hosting a special event at the @encinitasskateplaza (425 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas) to benefit Vivian Gomez, a ten-year-old participant of Skate Rising that is fighting DIPG, a rare form of brain cancer.
The event will consist of community service activities benefiting children going through radiation treatment, learn-to-skate clinics and a celebration of Vivian’s favorite things. Dr. Tyler Seibert, a UC San Diego Oncologist, will discuss ways in which we can support those around us that are affected by illness.
Participants will have the opportunity to donate to @locksofloveofficial, create activity kits for children going through radiation treatment and work on a special knotted blanket for Vivian.
Pro Skateboarders @nealmims , @beaverfleming, @jono_schwan, @andymac720, @kristiansvitak, @ameliabrodka, @jordynbarratt and @mimiknoop along with Robert Thompkins a pro WXMC (wheelchair motocross) will show their support by participating in the activities as well as teaching learn-to-skate clinics.
Several local businesses will be supporting this this event:
@kcscarlsbad stylists will be on-site to cut the hair of any willing donor. The hair donations will go directly to Locks of Love: to benefit children with hair loss. (Donation length must range from 10-12 in. and be unbleached)
@handelssd will provide “free ice cream” certificates to the first 60 individuals who donate to Vivian’s GoFundMe account or donate their hair with Kelly Cardenas Salon.
@nekterencinitas will pass out samples of Vivian’s favorite smoothie flavor and simple snacks.
This special event is open to all community members interested in teaching their children empathy, a sense of civic responsibility and basic skateboarding skills. All participants should consider wearing purple, Vivian’s favorite color.
If you cannot be on-site to donate your time or your hair, you can donate directly to Vivian’s family via GoFundMe link in our profile 👆🏻#dipg
