Alright... There’s a lot of high end tool posts and the finish they’re capable of BUT! Don’t ever use the fact you don’t have the proper or best tools to stop you from doing something. Know the tools you have, know the techniques of what you’re doing and know the product you’re working with. Guarantee you’ll get the results you need if you do that. Everyone owns a compressor, everyone has $15 for a garbage cup gun. Note the orange peel when wet, if I were to spray heavier or thin the paint more it will run(high solvent oil) however with a satin finish orange peel vanishes. Thinking of these things before you even begin a project saves you from a lot of heartache in the future. Your hands and brain are the best tools you have, use them and stop using the fact you don’t have a $1000 HVLP or proper spray booth to hinder the skills you already possess. Tips for spraying with this sort of setup or in general?
No line dryer- Drain the water out of compressor and run it for 10 minutes with the valve open.
No spray booth- plastic is all you need and a fan with a furnace filter. Wet the floor down to keep any dust from kicking up.
Spraying in general- Act like you have a robot arm. Every movement should be equal to the last in speed, angle, and distance.
Finally, test spray something first always. Know at what point the product will run or pool, know the flash off time, know the perfect distance from the piece that nets the proper spray pattern, figure out the optimal speed to be moving, know everything there is to know about the product, dont assume that because product A sprayed one way that product B will spray the same.
