As #electionweek comes to a close, victorious candidates are looking forward to moving into their Washington, D.C. offices. But did you know that D.C. wasn't always the nation's capital?
The Continental Army's victory in the Battle of Trenton may have turned the tide of the #AmericanRevolution, but success was fleeting in the quest to have Trenton become the capital of the United States. Trenton's time as the nation's capital was short, only lasting 54 days--from November 1 to December 24, 1784. But the highlight came on December 11, during Marquis de Lafayette's farewell address to a joint session with a Congressional delegation and the NJ State Legislature when he told the emotional gathering, “My heart feels deeply interested in the warmest wishes for the particular welfare of the state of New Jersey.” #njhistory #thisplacematters
