I have done every @crossfitgames open and every year is a different experience with a new lesson. This year I learned that to perform optimally and be satisfies with the outcome I have to have three things:
1. Surround myself - like most things in life, if you surround yourself with people that will push you, the outcome is better. @crossfitdistrict5 knows how to get everybody beyond what they thought possible. And this isn’t just during the open but a year round approach.
2. Get my mind right - while coaching is my passion and job I also like to perform well and those two don’t mix well together. Five Friday’s a year I have to remember why I’m doing this and where I came from. I’m doing this because hard work is admirable and CrossFit is hard. Progression is the name of the game and in comparison to years ago I have improved in every area.
3. Expectations - there was a time when competing was my main objective in CrossFit but it isn’t anymore. So my thoughts have slowly started to morph from “how can I help my team qualify in a good position” to “let’s do my best and set an example of what effort and integrity looks like.” This has been the most difficult for me as I have expected myself in so many workouts the last couple years to be much higher than I was. BUT that’s not what it’s about and I’m learning, albeit slowly. #D5 #crossfitopeneveryyear #eightpeat #imbetterthanlastyear #imbetterthan2011
