Eaglet (E9) is 8-weeks-old (56-days-old) today. Most of the activities this week is E9 learning to self-feed himself/herself. E9 occasionally perches on the edge of the nest and rearrange nesting materials as if he/she is cleaning house.
In the photos above, the Dad (M15) drops off a fish at the nest. E9 goes up to the fish and starts picking on the fish. The fish is still alive and twitching. E9 becomes startled and backs away. Moments later, E9 makes another attempt on the fish. Mom (Harriet) who is perched on a branch above the nest is observing and realize E9 may need her help. E9 seems like he doesn't want mom close to his/her fish. Mom stays at the nest observing and starts to preen the eaglet which E9 doesn't like that too much. Moments later, the Dad arrives at the nest. Now the entire family is in the nest. Dad starts to feed E9 the fish and Mom continues to preen E9. So fun watching these Bald Eagle pair raising and bonding with their eaglet.
