Dear Blade Runner 2049
I’ve been on this earth for going on 22 years now. Over those years, I’ve seen so many films that has made me the film geek I’m proud of. Seeing Blade Runner: The Final Cut at a young age had me in awe. When I heard there’s going to be a sequel to Blade Runner, one of my favorite films ever made, I was in denial. Going around and saying, “I don’t think this’ll work.” Oh, did you prove me wrong. It wasn’t until my denial towards the idea of a sequel quickly faded when I saw the teaser trailer back in December 2016. The second I saw the teaser, the denial— Wait, allow me to backtrack— a little before seeing the teaser, once I heard Denis Villenueve was attached to direct and Roger Deakins doing the cinematography, I was in a state of shock. My first thought was, “Now, this could work.” But then the teaser came into my life, gave me a glimpse of what was in stores for everyone, including myself. I just knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. I wasn’t. After seeing your film, it was like it made me a cinephile all over again. I was shocked by how mesmerizing your film is. The cinematography is fucking outstanding. It’s official Roger Deakins is a Cinematographer God! He captured art through the lenses. Your film is his cinematography masterpiece. Let’s not forget the beautiful music score. I’m listening to the score right now. I’m sorry your film didn’t make enough money at the box office. It angers me that this film wasn’t a box office hit. It should’ve been. We need more movies like this. This, in my eyes, is a slow burn beautiful art masterpiece. So for that, I’m looking forward to owning you on 4K forever! Thank you.
Yes, I wrote a little love letter to the film. Deal with it
