Meet Sean Carter. At age 22, he was a junior in college with the dreams of getting into law school to become a lawyer. However, an accident that occurred on the day before Easter in 2005 changed his life forever and crushed those dreams. After a night of heavy drinking, none of his friends were in any condition to drive but Sean got into the truck anyway. The truck ended up slamming into a tree exactly where Sean was sitting. Even though he was wearing a seat belt, he was the only one who suffered any injuries. His pelvis was shattered, virtually every bone on his right side was broken and several vital organs were lacerated and ruptured.
Worst of all, he suffered a traumatic brain injury putting him in a coma. Today Sean is prisoner in his own body. In an interview, Sean said “[The crash] literally took everything, including my dreams.” His only means of communication is an iPad because he’s unable to speak. He hopes that by sharing his story he might be able to prevent one person from making the same mistake.
