At the age of eight, frosting connoisseur and Instagram Creator, Nicholas Makrides (@thescranline), first discovered his love for food while watching his mum and grandma cook growing up—becoming inspired by the way they would both interact with each other while around food. But it wouldn't be until a trip to Paris later in life where Nicholas would develop his passion for pastries. “As soon as I got back from that trip, I went and worked in a bakery and then eventually started making food videos online. Once instagram introduced video on their platform, things really began growing for me,” says Nicholas.
Described as “a celebration of design, pop culture and pastries,” Nicholas' Instagram account is where he brings all of his passions to life and shares them with his community. “Each week, I share two recipe videos on my YouTube, Instagram and Facebook pages in an effort to encourage people of all ages to get into their kitchen and bake something delicious and fun,” he says.
Taking inspiration from not only what's happening in the ever changing world of desserts, but also fashion and music, Nicholas' colorful creations reflect his motivation for constantly trying newer and better things with his craft. “There is always something new happening—things get more extreme, taller, cleaner looking or new ingredients present themselves. So for me, it’s all about keeping up,” Nicholas says. “But I’m always open to change,” he continues. “That’s just the nature of my job and the work I do.”
