CLC MEMBER FEATURE: Hi, my name is Laura. I’m 21 years old and I’m from New Hampshire. I work as a paramedic and I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. My symptoms started three years ago just before my senior year of high school. I would have horrible abdominal pain, random fevers, and episodes of overwhelming fatigue. I thought it was just anxiety since I had a lot in my plate, but last year my symptoms got even worse. I was passing out, losing weight, and I would have days where I couldn’t even climb a flight of stairs. Unfortunately my doctors and myself continued to treat it like it was in my head. I was working 100-140 hours a week, going to school, and training for a triathlon so I didn’t have time to be sick.

However, in the beginning of March I went to the ER after my fever wouldn’t go below 102 and the debilitating I was experiencing continued for over a week. I was diagnosed with a perforated appendix. I had surgery and thought it was all over; I’d get better from there and the battle over. Little did I know I would spend the next month in and out of the hospital. It got to the point where I couldn’t even roll over in bed for them to check lung sounds. One resident surgeon convinced the other doctors to do a colonoscopy to check for crohn's. That next morning the procedure was done and I had a diagnosis. Since then I’ve been hospitalized multiple times including a month with a PICC line and TPN.

I’m currently preparing for a possible ileocecectomy by the end of the year due to scar tissue in my ileum from all those years I went undiagnosed. It’s been a battle and I’ve had some of my most lonely and difficult moments, but I’ve become a stronger person and a more compassionate caregiver. By far the most important lesson I've learned is to always advocate for yourself. Just because someone has the letters MD after their name doesn’t mean they know everything. #ChronicLoveClub

Sending out mass emails to those of you interested in my Holiday Accountability Group before stuffing my face! 😜

It’s been a while since I posted and that’s because I seriously haven’t been well.. I haven’t been eating properly, I haven’t been sleeping properly and I’ve been in a TON of pain and feeling nauseas etc 😩 Every single day has been super difficult.. but I’ve tried my very best to push through it! I’m very very lucky to have such amazing and supportive people around me. Last week, me & my wonderful boyfriend @williamjaketaylor went to see the fireworks and the Christmas lights turn on in our local town with our 2 best friends @housetargaryenn ☺️ we had an amazing time and something that means the world to me is that everyone kept asking me if I was ok, if I was in pain and if I needed to sit down etc. It’s so nice to have such amazing support! I literally cannot thank everyone enough for being so kind and understanding to me, it really means the absolute world!! 😘

Happy Thanksgiving! Before indulging in the sweetness of the holiday get some tips from Ep. 5: Sugar & healthier alternatives!!

I definitely could not force myself to eat all of this but I made sure to try a little bit of everything 😍 Happy Thanks-LIVING 👍

May 2014 - Diagnosed with Crohns Disease - weighing 31kg (4.8 stone)

November 2017 - Feeling 100%, on Infliximab, having doses every 8 weeks - weighing 58kg (9.1 stone)
Hard work, having a positive mindset and goals in mind have helped me in so many ways, and I’m feeling more confident within myself and the way I look😇 @crohnsandcolitisuk #crohns

How cute is my wee Bells, she never fails to make me feel better ❤️Guess who has either a severe kidney infection so they’re on 2 weeks of antibiotics minimum 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve been really unwell recently with my kidneys but it’s crazy how I’ve got so bad after finishing the last antibiotics. Last week it was just a kidney infection with no blood or anything and today I was in a lot of pain and was up all night with it so I ended up back at the gp for testing and I’m now testing positive for both lots of protein and a really high amount of blood... I have a feeling this might turn into IV antibiotics soon because it feels bad. Why am I such a riot?! I’m not even on immunosuppressants but my body is acting like I am! There’s literally not a week I’ve not been at hospital, the GPs or out of hours since I got back from Florida that was 10 weeks ago 😂 I’m at least seeing it as a chance to try and enjoy relaxing and getting right into the Black Friday sales! By 2am this morning I had already placed 2 different orders and tonight I’ve just placed another one 🙈 I might be sick but at least I’ve got clothes to last me the winter... I actually need to clear out SO many clothes/set up a depop to try and clear out because I literally have no room left 😂 My OOTD is actually a completely new outfit I picked up in Primark yesterday for about £25 as I am completely feeling the cold so wanted a crop jumper to be a fancier version of my every day jumpers and I have needed some new black high waisted jeans because bag leaks have caused some major problems with discolouration on all my black jeans which I haaaaate! I also must have been feeling really brave to buy a cream jumper but I’ll make sure I don’t wear it when my bags aren’t sticking great 🙈 #blogger #entrepreneur #fashion #health #life #ibd #crohns #ileostomy #proctectomy #invisibleillness #chronicillness #glasgow #student #ootd #recovery #spoonie #lifestyleblog #healthblog #bodypositive #instagood #photooftheday #lifestyle #pale #blonde #ootd #bichonfrise #selfie #cute

Magnesium is an incredibly important nutrient for energy, the nervous system, muscle function, and gene maintenance. Unfortunately, many of us are just not getting enough of this mineral. .
And sadly, a magnesium poor diet in America is the norm, not the exception. The average American diet supplies less than two thirds of the magnesium required by the body. Yet each person is individual, not only in their intake of magnesium, but also in their ability to absorb and utilize this key mineral.
Magnesium-rich foods include whole grains, leafy greens, nuts and seeds. Foods like these were once common in diets around the world, but an increase in both food processing and the availability of enticing convenience foods with added fats and sugars has had its impact. Whole and unrefined foods high in magnesium are becoming increasingly rare in the modern diet.
But beyond diet alone, there are other reasons that you may be magnesium deficient. .

Diuretics such as Edercrin, Lasix, mannitol, and thiazides (with names commonly ending in -zide)
Certain heart failure medications including digitalis, digoxin (Lanoxin), Qunidex, and Cordarone .
Medications used to treat irregular heartbeat, such as Cordarone (amiodarone), bretylium, quinidine (Cardioquin) and sotalol (Betapace) .

Had the pleasure of purchasing a colon pendant from Mrs. Meredith Flynn, knowing 30% of my payment will be going towards IBD research. Meredith and her husband, James, who has Crohn's Disease, are becoming another voice in the community to promote awareness and remove the stigma that comes with the life changing invisible illness. They are proof that you shouldn't be afraid to try and make a difference in the world. Thank you both for your efforts :) #fashion #photoshopexpress #jewelry #colon #ibd #ibdawareness #crohns #crohnsdisease #crohnie #lifestyle #lifestyleblogger #writer #writerslife #hipster

Shout out to @dermalogica hydrablur and @bareminerals makeup for helping to hide my inflamed and bumpy prednisone face. What do you guys do about the pred acne? I mean, I know it's systemic, so I'm not sure anything topical could really help. I'll still take suggestions though! .

He’s not a service dog, but he supports me nonetheless. He always knows when I’m not well and sticks close to my side. He’s normally pretty rambunctious, but all this week while I’ve been sick he’s been quiet and attentive, napping by my side and checking up on me every so often. Fur babies are wonderful soul soothers when life and #chronicillness gets to be a bit too much. He sees my #invisibleillness even when others don’t. #ibdawarenessmonth #ibd #crohns #crohnsdisease #ostomy #ileostomy #dogsofinstagram #furbaby
