#Most often asked question: When do I start my young athlete shooting on a 10 foot goal?
Throughout the years we have received criticism for teaching our athletes, at a young age, proper shooting mechanics in a regulation 10' goal. I have been told that kids "CAN'T" shoot it correctly unless you lower the goal. Nonsense.
The #DrDish #AllStar is used for many shooting drills. However, becomes a great teaching tool for young shooters. 1. The adjustable net obviously allows for varying arcs but forces the shooter to shoot the ball up. 2. The Dr. Dish's ability to adjust the pass settings quickly, allows for our kids to develop the ability to catch CONSISTENT and accurate passes to the young shooter. Which leads to more consistent and accurate shooting at the early stages of development.
Tiago (in black) has been shooting in a 10' goal since he was 3 years old with pretty solid mechanics. Taison (in red), couldn't at 3 years old or 4, for that matter! So I change the metric by which I assesed success. I gave him great encouragement for just getting the ball to the net with the proper form. Then half of the net. Then the rim. I did this until finally he was getting it over the rim and making shots. If you notice his form is technically a little bit more sound than Tiago's. But for a 6 year old (Taison) and a 7 year old (Tiago), you will be hard pressed to find better forms. Maybe better shooters (ball going in the whole more frequently) but not better shooters with close to adult mechanics ON regulation goals. @drdishbball
