“By doing what you love, you inspire and awaken the hearts of others.” During my junior year of dental school at USC, I applied for the annual “March Madness” scholarship, which was created by a family in honor of their father, who loved practicing dentistry and had a passion to give back to those around him.
I submitted my qualifications and wrote an essay about how I would contribute to my school in the future.
I was honored to be selected as one of many candidates to be interviewed.
This family was beyond gracious and loving. They talked about their father with great reverance and told me that none of his children wanted to be a Dentist.
Amazingly, one other student and I were selected as scholarship recipients.
The family didn’t stop there! They would take us out to nice dinners, buy us gifts and reminded us how their father loved teaching.
The following year, now my senior year of dental school, I was informed that the family didn’t find a qualified recipient and they DOUBLED my scholarship!
I was so blessed and thankful. Reminiscing and writing about this brings tears to my eyes. This family believed in me and trusted me.
I had given my word that I would, one day, go back to USC and teach.
It wasn’t easy to get the position of “Adjunct Clinical Professor,” but I’m here.
So, this ☝🏽 is for you and your family, Dr. H!
