Did you know that 7 a day is now recommended to the UK? Other countries have even higher recommendations.
A portion of veg (or fruit but fruit v high fructose, so best to limit it) is 80g.

So 7x80g, it's a lot, imagine all of that your your plate - hard to fit much more on, so it tells us the majority of our meals should actually be veg !
By the way potatoes don't count as a portion. (Sweet potatoes do). Local fresh seasonal veg will be more nutrient rich, especially important for vitamin C which is a very delicate vitamin, which can be destroyed by storage - imagine how long fruit and veg takes to get to our kitchen if shipped from abroad. Heat also destroys vitamin C, so think raw for Vitamin C rich foods. One of my favourite dishes is cauliflower cous cous salad mmmm.
Brits tend to be severely lacking vitamin C in their diet, possibly because they rely on fruit from overseas to give them this nourishment.
It's easy to grow some of your own veg, even with a small space. You could try with just one - you will soon get hooked! Even if it's just a herb to begin with, flat leaf parsley is very rich in vitamin C!
Thinking - oh I'll just have s smoothie or a juice? Sorry - it's only classed as one of your 7 a day and is often too high is sugar and low in fibre.
When eating fructose rich fruit and veg (it's easy to tell - it's sweet!) eat some protein and fat to help balance blood sugar spikes.
Do you suffer with acne? Acne can often be hormone related. Hormonal imbalance can be greatly improved with a balanced diet.

New blog post: Get to know the Clean 15 & Dirty Dozen. It’s important to clean your gut to avoid autoimmune disorders and if you have autoimmune disease(s) already.

Inflammation is the word for the movements that are all around us now. Eliminate inflammation for optimal health! A great way to start to clean your gut is to shop the dirty dozen and the clean 15 lists when buying fruits and vegetables.

Ultimately, growing our own would be the most healthiest knowing what environment these were grown in but not many of us can live w such a privilege.

So, here are the @ewg #dirtydozen #clean15 lists to assist in avoiding harmful chemicals in the produce aisles.

A good way to think about these choices is thin skin organic, thick skin non-organic.

I take this list with me every time I go grocery shopping!
The Dirty Dozen are your dirtiest fruits/veggies (most pesticides, etc). You absolutely want to buy these organic because of the amount of toxins used to treat them or the nature of their thin skin or absorbency.
Your Clean 15 list, on the other hand, use little/no chemicals &/or have thick skin that is not permeated by chemical exposure. So it's okay to buy these conventional.

I've had Brooke for 2 years. Each season she discarded overly calcified eggs without ever digging a nest. I decided to feed her an organic diet, making an exception for items that are on EWG's Clean 15 list. I also decided to let her regulate her own calcium intake, rather than dusting her food. Thankfully, she dug her first nest in November and laid 5 healthy eggs that are due to hatch in March. I'm glad I was able to make a couple of changes and see positive results in her health.

Kale is one of THE most healthy greens out there.
Its highly anti-inflammatory, helps detox your body, rich in vitamin C and beta-carotene which are 2 of the top 3 antioxidants in the world, natural source of folate(excellent for brain developing on infants), good for heart health, healthy vision and cancer prevention just to name a few! The list goes on....✨

I love kale in smoothies, salads but my favorite way to eat it, is as chips. So crunchy and sooo good and soooo good for you!

Make sure you ALWAYS buy your kale organic, limit yourself from exposure to pesticides and toxins thats are so harmful to our bodies.✨

While ideally it would be best to buy local and organic produce, this is not always practical due to premium costs, time of season, and inconvenience.
🍇
Get familiar with this list from the @environmentalworkinggroup (EWG) #Clean15 and #DirtyDozen to see which produce is the most heavily sprayed (dirty) and should ALWAYS be bought organic. I personally buy all berries, root vegetables, and dark leafy greens organic as well.
🍏
When we buy organic, we greatly decrease our exposure to neurotoxic round-up and other chemical pesticides that poison our body and cause endocrine dysfunction.
🍋
Want almonds? Well, I hope they're steam treated and organic...conventional almonds are fumigated with propylene oxide, an anti-freeze derivative and neurotoxin. You can see that even when we are trying to make a healthy choice, we still can't seem to win. And this is just one example. Apples and diphenylamine, anyone?
🍒
In addition, organic food is more stressed. STRESSED FOOD HAS MORE NUTRIENT VALUE. When plants have to naturally fight and defend themselves from harsh conditions, water and nutrient deficiencies, and injury, they produce more phytochemicals and antioxidants. These biologically active compounds are essential for optimal health and fighting disease.
🍅
However, when we can't choose organic, I want to share with you an easy cleaning technique you can use on conventionally raised produce. Simply add a couple tablespoons of apple cider or regular vinegar to a medium bowl, or add a full cup to your sink filled with water to remove the waxy resin. Soak for 10 minutes. Make sure to give it a final rinse and pat it dry before storing!

Tried out the @cloveandhallow pressed foundation this weekend for the first time and filmed a first impressions. Want to see the coverage? The video is up now. Overall, pretty impressed. Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts on it? This lipstick I’m wearing here is @cloveandhallow as well in Flaming Coral. Love it. #cloveandhallow #veganmakeup #veganfoundation #crueltyfreebeauty #clean15

I am a big fan of the “dirty dozen” list and how it helps us spend our money wisely when it comes to fruits and veggies. If it’s on the dirty dozen, always buy organic. If it’s on the clean 15 then save the extra money and buy conventional. You can then use some of the savings to invest in things like farm fresh eggs or grass fed beef. .

Organic doesn’t mean 100% organic, and all natural doesn’t guarantee no GMOs or other added artificial ingredients. Either way, even organic food is often subject to cross contamination. Not all foods need to be organic, just google the #DirtyDozen which gives you a guide to the produce that is best to be consumed organically as they tend to get laden with chemicals (pesticides, herbicides etc. ) for instance, did you know that an apple is sprayed SEVENTEEN TIMES during its growth cycle 😷.

When supporting other in shopping especially those who dont buy organic. I always give them this sheet. Its a tool that everyone can use to protect yourself from harmful chemicals. .

do you follow the dirty dozen?? while i try to purchase all organic for myself and the planet, sometimes its not always possible. When thats the case, I make sure I at least stick to the dirty dozen, or the most sprayed fruits/veggies! The clean 15, are the fifteen least sprayed, and you can be more lenient with!!

The Dirty Dozen are the 12 fruits and vegetables you must but organic if you can not afford all organic food. By switching these 12 foods to organic you eliminate 85% of your pesticide intake. #healthfacts #health #foodtalk #justhealth #healyourself #dirtydozen #clean15

Always a good reminder from @environmentalworkinggroup - remember DIRTY means HEAVILY sprayed. I know that eating 100% organic is costly. I personally choose to pay for my wellness NOW versus when I’m older. Im also required to eat as clean as possible due to AI. The clean list is safe to not buy organic or local when not avail- re: the Dirty list ... don’t buy & when you DO remember to WASH WASH WASH your produce, SCRUB SCRUB SCRUB - it’s going IN your BODY! Clean it 🤓 I’m thrilled to have @imperfectproduce to aid in cost reduction and food waste of organic and local produce!
