What do you celebrate today? Day 80 of 365. Today I celebrate the understated power of a ‘to do’ list: a few wants and needs jotted down somewhere which will ultimately end up with a check mark next to it, or maybe not. A check for whether the laundry was done this week, a check if the eggs were bought, if you remembered to be kind to a stranger today, if you can say you finally went on your bucket list vacation to Iceland. The power of that little check, or its absence, holding you to account.
Lists can be overwhelming at first, but as you learn to organize them, the sense of accomplishment that comes with seeing that check mark next to something is invigorating.
I remember at the start of my career I was told by my first agent that I was flaky and scatterbrained. And as much as I wanted to rebel against that statement I knew she was right and that something needed to change. It was my dance teacher who first introduced me to the concept of keeping a ‘list’ and a schedule book and what a world of difference it has made.
So I celebrate the organization, the establishment of goals, the holding myself to account and the accomplishment that comes with each and every little check mark. And I encourage every one of you to sit down and start making lists: things to do today, things to do this week, things to do this month, things to do this year, bucket lists, lists for what you want in a partner, lists for things you’ll change in yourself and amazing things to do in this wonderful, fragile, all-too-short life. #celebrate #appreciate Photo by @keithandreen #pointreyes #ocean #beach #california
