After the Vietnam war, in the 70s, Cambodia had the Khmer Rouge regime that came to power. Pol Pot, their leader, ordered the mass kill of almost 3 million people. Most of them, educated people, people that spoke a foreign language, religious people, people that worked in the former government.
That was 21% of Cambodia’s population at the time.
A visit to the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center and the S-21 prison is a very somber and dark visit into the history of humanity. Just like the Holocaust, this sad stain on the history of time, is a proof of how much damage hate and power in the wrong hands can do.
I will always remember today as a token of why I should treat everyone with kindness and love. There is too much hate going around, clouding our souls as it is.
May those millions and millions of souls killed find peace. #choeungek #khmerrouge #apieceofhistory #sosad #humble #cambodia #travelling #discover #beanicehuman #phnompenh
