🚫 STOP IT. JUST STOP IT. 🚫
The year is 2018. Why are people still going around, saying they "don't want to build, just tone"? It is most common with women, but I hear more than enough guys say it, as well.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "TONING". There is, however, the combined result of gaining muscle mass and dropping excess body fat. THIS is actually what people are thinking of when they cite wanting to "tone". And no one is saying that you have to try to be at elite Olympian level, or even on that path, for that matter... but, thanks to the modern media machine and societal negativity about muscle, the 100% reality of attaining it is not told. General fitness canon states that if you use lighter weight at higher reps, then you will "tone" your muscles. The end result supposedly is a lean and streamlined body that is not bulky, with good muscle definition.
Ha, I say.
If you want "muscle tone", you actually want larger muscles, and lowered body fat. Sound like it will take some work and discipline, maybe a little hard? Yep. So quit saying you only want to "tone". Sounds like you are saying you want to avoid the hard work.
Ladies (you do not have to be afraid) and gents, pick up the weights, AND LIFT.
