I have a love-hate relationship with Bourbon Street. The ever popular spot has its highlights with a colorful nightlife seen, people watching and Marie Laveau’s House of VOODOO (I got my fortune read! I couldn’t resist). But with the crowds come smells and a lot of trash. It’s inevitable so prepare yourself.
With that said, I think it’s still worth going at least for a short time on your trip to NOLA. Go in the day to avoid a lot of the negatives typically associated with the area and enjoy a very #NewOrleans proper lunch at Cafe Amelie or Antoine’s. Or if you’re brave enough (a little liquid courage) hit the streets at night... if you’re anything like me, the next day might be a bit of a BLUR. But who cares, I’m on vacation!
And when you need an easy way to recover the next day, head to the rooftop pool and bar at @aceneworleans. I believe you pay 10 bucks if you aren’t staying there, but the escape from all the noise with on pointe people watching is totally worth it. Plus it’s the south, so you’ll need to cool off! #tourList
