Loving yourself is a revolution. #IDAHOBIT | 📷 @alyraff ⠀
. Today is International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia and I'm choosing to talk about biphobia, since it's something I live with. In the spirit of IDAHOBIT, here's some bi knowledge for you:⠀
. Bisexuality IS a real sexual orientation. It is not a phase.
. Bisexuality means that an individual is attracted romantically and/or sexually to people of more than one sex and/or gender. It's not about the binary. I don't know any bi people who insist they are only attracted to cis people, if they did, that would be transphobic (and you should call them out on that shit).⠀
. Surveys show bi people outnumber gay people but LGBT work rarely focuses on us. We are more likely to have worse mental health, more likely to be in an abusive relationship, and less likely to receive resources and support from LGBTQ and straight communities.⠀
. Frequency of intercourse with a particular gender does not affect how bisexual someone is. I don't need to divulge my romantic history to you to prove my sexual orientation.⠀
. The sexual orientation and gender of a bisexual person's partner does not affect their bisexuality. I'm married to a cisgender straight man, I didn't lose my bisexuality when we tied the knot. I'm still me, and that won't ever change.⠀
. Bisexual people are not more prone to cheating or carrying diseases. People who identify as straight, gay, trans, bisexual or anything else are capable of cheating. A person's sexuality and/or gender identity doesn't make them cheat. Also, use protection guys.
. Bisexual people are often accused of reaping the benefits of passing as straight. Anyone can appear straight if they silence themselves enough and bisexual people only choose to pass as straight or gay for the same reasons gay people do: fear of ridicule and/or violence, and lack of support. Arguments like this seek to erase bisexuality and diminish the experiences and issues that bisexual people face daily.⠀
. Hope this clears some things up! I welcome you to ask any questions in the comments below and I promise I'll answer all of them. Lots of lov
