BILL HALEY AND THE COMETS - The Royal Albert Hall - May 1st 1968
Bill Haley headlined a wild rock ‘n’ roll night at the Royal Albert Hall.
A crowd of Teddy Boys started throwing bottles around in excitement. It was a lot safer on stage, although Shakin’ Stevens drummer did get hit on the head with a bottle. Duane Eddy was also on the show.
Bill Haley’s set included, Shake, Rattle and Roll, Rock Around The Clock and See You Later, Alligator. I had grown up listening to those songs. My mother would play her 78’s on the wind-up gramophone, so I wanted to get a picture for her of Bill Haley's double bass player rocking the bass on ‘Rock Around The Clock’.
I was seventeen, a seasoned professional of six months!
I photographed Bill Haley once more on that tour posing on a London street outside the Revolution Club, then being interviewed on The Old Grey Whistle Test, February 1974.
