HANG OUT WITH YOURSELF.
Anyone who knows me at ALL knows how passionate I am about journaling. What you might not know is that I’ve actually been journaling since I was 12 years old! I have binders full of journals from some of the most formative, painful, incredible, confusing, exciting times in my life. In high school I even taught a lesson to my girls’ small group about how to journal! 🖊📒
Journaling is one part of a very important facet of my life. Over the years, I have come to realize how crucial, and completely life-changing, it is to spend time with yourself. Knowing yourself well is the foundation for all the good things you will ever do or create. If you don’t understand yourself, how can you expect to break out of bad habits, conquer personal goals, or flourish in freedom?
I try to make time every day (it doesn’t aaaalways happen) to spend time alone, and to pay attention to the still small Voice inside. This is when I usually journal, but I do so many other things, too!
Here are a few things that I or dear friends of mine do to connect with ourselves and Divine Love on the daily:
journal (including classic journaling, one word journaling, a brain dump, Bible journaling, prayer journaling, mind/heart mapping, morning pages, etc), read scripture, read favorite quotes, read a chapter of a book, do a card reading,
practice a mindfulness exercise, meditate (visualization, body scan meditation, mantra meditation, etc), pray, breathe deeply for 5 minutes,
listen to inspiring music,
write poetry, create blackout poetry,
apply essential oils, practice a few minutes of restorative yoga, sit quietly in nature... the list could go on and on! I like to choose 3 or 4 of the things above and immerse myself in an experience that connects me to myself and to the rhythm of the presence of God. I always walk away knowing more about myself & feeling empowered & enlightened. 🖤
