1 oz. absinthe
0.5 oz. Rum Fire (@rumfirejamaica)
1 oz. lime juice
1 oz. tiki syrup
3 oz. cold water
4 dashes Angostura bitters
This is my take on "The Green Beast"; a cocktail brought to my attention by @barfaith, which utilizes absinthe as the base spirit. Up until now, I've only used my tiny bottle of absinthe for rinses and spritzes. After this cocktail, I'm convinced it's time to invest in a proper sized bottle, in order to create more cocktails which showcase absinthe's merits. To riff on "The Green Beast", Rum Fire was included, simple syrup was replaced by tiki syrup, cucumbers were ommited, and Angostura bitters were added. The tiki syrup is a simple syrup infused with various spices (cinnamon, cloves, star anise, lime juice, lime zest, ginger).
The cocktail presentation is based off techniques displayed at @barlelab. The absinthe and Rum Fire are added after the rest of the cocktail has been assembled. Set ablaze in a snifter, the highly flammable absinthe (140 proof) and Rum Fire (126 proof) are poured into the cocktail glass, and the snifter is placed on top, trapping the absinthe vapours. Before consuming, the snifter is lifted, and the absinthe vapours may be inhaled before enjoying the actual cocktail.
