Easton and I (Chels) are visiting my sis and brother-in-law with my mom. We went to see the movie Smallfoot tonight. If your movie theater doesn’t have recliner seats then you are missing out! Anyways, I learned some important things while watching the movie.
Throughout the whole movie the emphasized that each person had a job and responsibility. Each one found their identity in their job. Dorgle is the main characters, Migo, Dad. Dorgle’s job was the gong ringer. His job was super important because he woke up the sun every morning for the village. He made a statement that stuck with me “If I am not the gong ringer, then I don’t know who I am”. How many of us put everything we have into our jobs or whatever titles we hold? What if one day we look up and that title is gone? Dorgle woke up one day and missed the gong and the sun came up anyways. Everything that he had thought about himself was no longer true. How absolutely terrifying!
Been there. Done that. What I’ve learned is to not put my faith in my works but in the One who creates me. I don’t want to look up one day to realize everything that I have worked so hard for in life is snatched away and now I have nothing. The past few years have been some of the most humbling for me.
I love that a little kid movie can remind me to find my identity in Christ. I like to call that a little “God-wink”.
