Dear Artists (and non-artists!), Waking up this morning to a different world, one in which I feel that our basic humanity has been betrayed- trampled by racism, misogyny, and white privilege. I listened to the words of HRC and President Obama on my drive to work and the pain softened slightly into resolve to work harder for equality for all humans. As he said, we need to get up, lick our wounds, and then get back into the arena. .
Artists, we need more art! We need your expression, your vision, and beauty. We can’t withdraw into our safe little homes or move away. The world needs our voices, passion, and, yes, art. We need to find kindness and we need to speak up in the face of ugly racism, sexism and violence. We need to comfort our children and teach them by example. .
Today, there are a lot of angry and scared people in our communities. Since my favorite social media platform is Instagram, I have created a new profile: @ArtistsAgainstHate and will be posting my own work and re-gramming others in support of equality, compassion, and social change. We must speak up, we must create art! Please join me. #GettotheArt #ArtistsAgainstHate
