Had the pleasure of listening to renowned philosopher, @animalsaustralia founder, and author of the 1975 'bible' of the modern animal rights movement - 'Animal Liberation', Peter Singer, lecture in Sydney recently. Peter also coined the now widely-used term 'speciesm', which he describes as 'a prejudice or attitude of bias in favour of the interests of members of one's own species and against those of members of another species'.
Peter discussed various ethical and moral issues, including of course, ethical eating choices. In 'Animal Liberation' it is interesting how Peter notes that he was never particularly an 'animal lover', he just 'wanted them treated as the independent sentient beings that they are, and not as a means to a human end'. The book offers intelligent and reasoned argument, without sugar coating. There are so many excellent points in the Preface that I just uploaded it in its entirety.
