"The Reflection on 32nd ASEAN Summit"
.
.
Terakhir, walaupun belum bisa bersua bersama eyang @b.jhabibie, tapi insyaAllah next time bisa meet up ya eyang. 😊

Another majestic ruins of Southeast Asia - So much so, I am still fascinated on how ancient architecture such as these still persists today. Makes you question a lot of things don't it?, especially the hardwork in building it. - Just to what extent can "Advance" be associated with the "New" and "Modern"? Because to see such humongous architecture such as this makes you not only question the endless effort in building it but also, the technology that were utilized to built it. Not to mention, the height and the size of this ruin that somewhat contradicts the whole definition of "Advance technology". - I understand, we may not always have the answer to this just yet. Not yet. So, the only thing we can do now is just admire and explore this overwhelmingly majestic architecture.

Established as one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites and receiving endless visits all year round, Candi Prambanan has not only became popular amongst tourists but it is also known as the most renowned landmarks in Indonesia.

To what extent, are we always grateful? And just how far, are we less appreciative about everything that we had received/earned? - I understand these may not be the easiest questions to answer but at a certain point, we should be able to ask ourselves (not everyday), but atleast everytime we feel complacent about ourselves/the life we have.

This was taken few years ago, I was in Jogjakarta and was roaming around Malioboro street when I took this. I was actually standing on the side of the road, at a pavement trying to get a shot of its night life when this particular becak suddenly went pass me. What really caught my eye was... the smile that he still managed to give away to people. Let alone, his high enthusiasm. In comparison with most people, his job was not fancy nor was it ideal. But it was obvious that he was happy, which I highly find interesting. Hence, that's when I know that I had to take a snap of this unhypocritical scene.

Of course, taking this kind of shots at night was not easy, especially when it is a moving object. You had to not only get the right lighting but most of all, you also need to know how to play with the shutter speed. I don't have much experience back then when it comes to taking moving objects and people shots, in comparison to I am today (still not an expert yet & in the process of harnessing my skills) hence, it is obvious that, getting this shot was pure luck! In other words, playing with the camera and the exposure was one thing but being able to capture this, is just priceless! I really love the candid emotion and the outcome of this shot.

Not one of my best and not the type of photos that I usually released on social media. Then again, this is by far my best out of Jogjakarta. Something to commemorate my journey, and some moments to live by.

Taken almost a decade ago; I was on my own when I took this picture. It was a time when cellphones are cellphones, and 'Go Pro' was not even a "thing" back then and I don't think monopod sticks were even created yet. I remember because... back then, all I have was my sister's handy digital camera. And to be honest, taking this photo was not easy.

Until today, I still remember how I took this photo of myself. The struggle of finding the right angle and lighting and most of all, trying to obtain a proper place, to place the camera. Not to mention, getting the right timing; Oh! the self-timer! - then again, it still turn out well. Regardless of the hardwork it took to produce this, it was however very fun (as you can see in this picture). - And backpacking alone was also way awesome back then.

As you can see, having my picture taken at this particular place was quite crucial. Why you ask? - because to finally see things beyond history books and to be able to set foot in the grounds of Angkor was so overwhelming back then. It was just one of those places that I wanted to visit since I was in Secondary School. Simply put, Ancient Angkor was the first ancient city, that I visited beyond the confinement of a classroom.

In other words, this was actually my "first leap into the past". I know it may sound dramatic, as if I was actually using the time machine from 'Back to the future' but it is the truth. I was not able to take a "selfie" (as what people call it these days) at the actual Angkor Wat, because it was too overwhelmingly crowded, but to be able to have my photo taken here at Pre-Rup temple was already enough, as a witness to commemorate my journey in exploring the grounds of Angkor.

Can you feel what I feel? Or even see what I see?

I still remember, it was this particular moment and this particular view, that I just had to sit down and admire this beautiful view of the temple. So much so, immediately feel intrigued by it.

I remember sitting down and feeling rejoice. Not because of feeling satisfied but rather interested, interested on how it almost looks like a painting on a blank canvas. Which was just lying around flat. Why did I say this, you ask? - perhaps, it was due to the weather that was not only unfavourable but also discouraging. A temple that was supposedly charming and beautiful had become less significant due to the weather.

It was then, that I realized that I just had to fill in the gaps... the emptiness... the white that was surrounding the temple. It was then that I knew I had to take a shot of this particular view, at this particular angle, in this particular way. In other words, I had to frame it in a way that not only made the place looks special but also, makes the moment special. Simply put, I was with an intention of not only preserving its beauty but of course, preserving the moment.

In all honesty, I couldn't resist. I couldn't resist that it was not only attention grabbing but also truly heartwarming. Heartwarming that it not only provided peace in my heart but also, made me felt that I was also somewhere else. Somewhere that I long for... a place that I have always wanted to visit and experience.

Recent photo taken during my visit to Wat Arun in Bangkok, Thailand. It was raining heavily and the weather was not so great. No significant history and story behind this temple, the only thing I can understand is.. similar to Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai; it was definitely a temple made for the community.

One wise person (a photographer) once taught me that, "photography" is more than just taking beautiful pictures and getting the right angle. It is about... keeping all those memories intact and knowing that, that particular moment can only be relived, once the pages of our photo albums are flipped. In other words, it is about preserving the moment. Not reliving it, but preserving it.

Therefore, being able to understand (or inherit) the "Angle of Perspective" is very important when it comes to photography. As Ansel Adams said, "There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer" - again wisdoms to live by. Simply put, photography is not just about presenting our talent and displaying what we had witnessed/experienced but rather a tool for us to tell our story and how the viewers will be able to understand it. To make them see what we see, what we experienced and most of all, to make them feel what we felt... at that particular moment.

Hence, as you can see, I don't just take pictures of this beautiful temple from the usual angle as to show the beauty of it, but rather took a shot of it in a way that would display my journey exploring it, understanding every detail of it and most of all, based on an angle where I, myself did not expect to be able to take. To sum up, this picture is my story; my story of how I really get to know and admire this unique and unconventional temple; Wat Arun.
