Happy (Belated) Pub Day to Kristin Higgins and her beautiful, relevant book “Good Luck with That”! 💕📚 Thank you @berkleypub @penguinrandomhouse and @goodreads for the ARC!
Synopsis: Emerson, Georgia, and Marley have been best friends ever since they met at a weight-loss camp as teens. When Emerson tragically passes away, she leaves one final wish for her best friends: to conquer the fears they still carry as adults.
For each of them, that means something different. For Marley, it's coming to terms with the survivor's guilt she's carried around since her twin sister's death, which has left her blind to the real chance for romance in her life. For Georgia, it's about learning to stop trying to live up to her mother's and brother's ridiculous standards, and learning to accept the love her ex-husband has tried to give her.
But as Marley and Georgia grow stronger, the real meaning of Emerson's dying wish becomes truly clear: more than anything, she wanted her friends to love themselves. ***
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wow, what an emotional journey this book was! We women are so tough on ourselves and often base our self-worth on our size and the numbers on scales and clothing. We live in a fat-shaming society. It sucks but it’s true.
I think everyone struggles with body image at some point in their life, (if not always). I have been there and full disclosure, I don’t think I ever “left”’there. As a mom of five kids and at menopausal age, the struggle is real. I may not be overweight but I deal with weight issues and body image just as much as someone who may be overweight. “Good Luck with That” is sensitive, relevant, poignant and the women are relatable. You just want to hug the heck out them in some parts and tell them how beautiful they are! I felt like I had a hangover after reading this because of the roller coaster of emotions I went through. Yes it can be triggering to people with an ED or weight issues but I think the back of the book and the synopsis gives you a good idea what you’ll be reading about, so please don’t blame the book/writer. 😘
