Watched @katetoon 's talk at the last @motherden Brunch Session. Kate shared how she approached her business was different to other business owners - she focused on monetary numbers, not vanity metrics. She made herself an authority in her field, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), by sharing digital and marketing knowledge married with her copywriting skills. She has won awards for her work, her businesses appear on the first page of Google when her services are searched, she runs various businesses, worked with big corporations, but she doesn't have thousands of online followers. That doesn't bother her because her focus is her bottom line - running a profitable business. I like her mantra.
I want to challenge business owners to approach your business this way. Cafe owners, instead of focusing on having large followers, why not come up with ideas to use social media to generate sales? Run a Facebook Ad promotion, $9 lunches Monday - Friday? Ideas to generate more sales, leads - anything to get them in your door, instead of just wanting hundreds of followers. Followers don't pay the bills, sales do.
