I will explain.
As a job seeker or business starter, it's not enough to know the work. It's not enough to be successful. You have to LOOK like you know the work and that you ARE already successful.
As bad as it sounds, the truth is organizations, businesses and individuals WANT to be associated with success and brilliance.
Have you ever seen someone who you could have sworn does not know half as much as you nor even have as much as you, get that job, that contract, or get that hot dude or chic? It is called packaging.
In Nigeria, I stand to be corrected but VALUE is placed on EXPENSIVE. Whatever seems expensive or flashy, we consider it premium.
Have that in mind when you are attending interviews or going for contracts. This is why you may be turned down for a N12M per annum job when you mention your former pay was N1.4M per annum.
Dress for the occassion. When going to win multimillion contracts or get a high paying job, look like you already spend that amount. Whatever you are gunning for, look the part. You can't be going for a highly technical role and you cannot speak in that high level technical language.
You are going for an interview for the role of a Sales Person, Consultant or Executive/Special Assistant to a C-Level executive and you are going for subtle? No please.
Look the part you are coveting. Show that you can handle already what you are gunning for. No one would invest in you if you look poor. Take that to the bank. 😉
