Due to not having any wifi in Antarctica, I never really posted photos from there on Instagram so I'll try to catch up here and there. This is a photo I took of a friend topping out on Castle Rock, across from Mount Erebus, a high and very active volcano, from which I was lucky enough to have been gifted a crystal from the depths of. This is the furthest you can get away from base and you can still see it so... not far, but man, it feels it and it was amazing to finally get the break in weather to go. I had to drop my contract and will not be returning to the ice this season, and I have to be honest in saying that while I was absolutely mind blown by every detail from day one to day, maybe, thirty, it did become very tiresome towards the end of the deployment. Sharing a half square mile with 850 other humans, nowhere to really go, and a lot of working noise 24/7 became quite frustrating to me, having been used to living 101% freely in Moab for so long. That being said, if I find a dog sitter for next season, I will absolutely return because the people I met there were some of the best on the planet. I am beyond grateful for having had the opportunity to go to a place that most never do, and work a job I love with amazing people. If I never return, I'm so stoked that I got to be one of the frozen few. Until then, I will be more than enjoying being free in the vast expanse and gnoshing tacos 😉 Love you guys! .
