John “Bonzo” Bonham’s custom “Sunset Tripper” chopper ridden in the epic Led Zeppelin film The Song Remains the Same, sold at auction in 2015 for $40,000 USD.
It remained with the family after his untimely death in 1980 when Jason Bonham sold it in 1988. It went on display in a Denmark pizza parlor until December 2014.
The chopper’s design was inspired by the legendary “Captain America” from Easy Rider, but with a Union Jack on the tank rather than the Stars and Stripes, powered by a ‘70 Triumph 650cc engine.
It was one of four Triumphs the members of Led Zeppelin commissioned from California-based Burbank Customs.
The intersecting circles design seen on the sissy bar is Bonzo’s Led Zeppelin “sign” first introduced in Led Zeppelin IV— the three interlocking (Borromean) rings, representing the triad of mother, father and child.
