repost from @pincusrob Both of these objects are legal.
-One produces enough power to go twice as fast as this countries highest legal posted speed limit (85mph in TX) and no one even hints at laws to restrict it. The other isn't powerful enough to ethically hunt some legal game animals on our continent, but it is constantly under threat of being outlawed.
-Current laws push one towards being quieter than I would like and the other to be louder.
-One of these requires nothing but money to own and the only training required occurs long before most people have enough money to afford it. The other requires money and a background check that occurs just before you take ownership.
-The use of one of these devices results in over 35,000 Deaths a year in the US, as reported by just about every source available*. The other, about 25% of that, as reported by those who most want to see them outlawed**. [*all automobiles, not just German Sports Sedans. **All firearms (not counting Law Enforcement and other justices Defensive Uses), not just AR15 Type Rifles.]
-One of these things is a luxury item that is seen by most people as a sign of success, but sometimes scoffed at by those who don't appreciate the value. The other is often demonized as an evil talisman of doom that has no redeeming value, while others see it as a symbol of Freedom and a means to protect themselves and those they care about from harm.
-Neither of these objects is something that anyone is very likely to ever "need"... but, the Right to own one of them is Constitutionally Protected.
