One of the most frequently asked questions I get is if I wear a corset/shapewear/waist train. I took this up close photo of my torso so you can see that this is just how I am naturally built. I've always had a small ribcage and carry my weight on my hips and bust. Please keep in mind that my body is far from perfect - I have cellulite just like everyone else. Over the years I've become very well acquainted with styles that accentuate my frame and of course I pose in ways that further draw attention to the difference in circumference between my hips and waist.
I've never worn a corset and don't plan to anytime soon. But just because it's not something I'm personally into, doesn't mean that it shouldn't be worn by those who like them. Body positivity is not only about accepting and loving your own body, but also being respectful of the decisions others make about theirs.
If you like the retro style but don't feel your body type conforms to it, just remember that these are the styles women used to wear all the time, regardless of their shape and size. Life is far too short to let social constructs surrounding what we "should" or "shouldn't" do rule our day-to-day decisions, especially regarding something as important as self expression.
