We would like to introduce our third conductor for the 4MBS Choral Spectacular, Mr Chen Yang from the Corda Spiritus Orchestra.

Chen Yang is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with a distinction in violin performance. He subsequently held the position of concertmaster of the Queensland Theatre Orchestra and later joined the Queensland Symphony Orchestra for a number of years as a violinist.

Chen performs regularly as a leader and conductor of both the Corda Spiritus Orchestra of Brisbane and the Sinfonia of St Andrew's. He is also a regular guest conductor with the Brisbane City Pops Orchestra and the Gold Coast Chamber Orchestra. Chen is also passionate about music education and is a life member with the Queensland Youth Orchestra.

To encourage you to come along to our Choral Spectacular concert at the
Brisbane City Hall on Sunday afternoon at 3pm, we would like to introduce
the second of three conductors for this concert. Mr Kevin Power OAM. Musical conductor for The Queensland Choir.
Kevin Power is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium, studying piano
with celebrated Australian pianist Nancy Weir. After graduation he spent
five years in the UK studying piano with Swiss pianist Albert Ferber and
chamber music with Walter Gerhardt, while working professionally as a solo
pianist and accompanist. He has performed throughout the UK and in Germany,
Switzerland, France, Italy and Spain. From 1979 to 1995 Kevin was a member
of the teaching staff of the Queensland Conservatorium while maintaining an
active career as a solo pianist, accompanist and chamber musician. He has
appeared as soloist with the QSO and its predecessors and broadcast for the
ABC as both solo pianist and accompanist. He was a founding member of the
Southern Cross Soloists and toured throughout Australia and internationally
with them.

We would like to introduce to you our compere for the choral spectacular on
Sunday afternoon 3 June at Brisbane City Hall. We are so grateful for
Jason's time for this concert. Here is a little bit about him. Book your

Jason Barry-Smith is a familiar presence on the Australasian operatic and
music theatre stage and as a singing teacher, educator and musical director.
His operatic and music theatre roles are wide-ranging and include the title
role of Don Giovanni (for which he won a National Opera Award). He created
the roles of Julian in Anthony Richie's comic opera Quartet and Samuel in
Barry Conyngham's Electric Lenin, and also performed the role of Mamoud in
the Australasian premiere of John Adams' The Death of Klinghoffer. Jason is
also a much-admired singing teacher and many of his students, including The
Veronicas and members of The Ten Tenors, are working in the music industry
both nationally and internationally. He has also been Artistic Director of
The Queensland Youth Choir; Director - Young and Developing Artist Program,
Opera Queensland; and is currently Music Director of Carols in the City,
Brisbane; a Sessional Voice Teacher at the Queensland Conservatorium,
Griffith University; and Creative Director - Open Stage, Opera Queensland.
Jason was also a member of the 2013 Australia Council for the Arts -

Meet the tenor soloist for Baroque Brilliance - Phillip Costovski
The tenor soloist
Phillip Costovski is an undergraduate tenor studying Classical Voice at the Queensland Conservatorium. Originally from Newcastle, tenor Phillip Costovski, of Nundah, is a Conservatorium student who has performed in various roles including film director Bruce Beresford’s production of Albert Herring, the new opera Tales of Scheherazade alongside acclaimed Australian baritone Jeffrey Black, and will premiere the role of Henry in Paul Dean’s new opera Dry River Run as part of the Brisbane Festival.
