Hey guys! Long time no review. 😊😊 I've been using @afrobynature_hairvitality Deep Penetrating Banana Milk Conditioner for a few weeks now and I think I'm ready to talk about it.
What can I say? It's amazing! It's smells HEAVENLY! You never want to stop applying. Best thing? Just as the name implies, it penetrates your hair shaft so even if you want to apply it generously, your hair will definitely absorb it all without leaving a trace. πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ
All moisturising ingredients with a hint of hydrolyzed protein. No, this doesn't make it a protein conditioner but a balanced conditioner. So, if your highly porous hair loves protein like mine, this product is definitely for you. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
There isn't much slip so you will need to detangle before deep conditioning. It's also well packaged so it doesn't waste and a little goes a long way. πŸ‘πŸ‘
This is such a great product and I'm so proud it is made in Nigeria. πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

So after a much deliberation, I decided to cut my hair and start again in the hope it will grow out healthier and longer. It was damaged and broken from all the heat I had put on it however, I was scared because I have a round face. I feared thought the chop wasn't going to look right on me πŸ˜…πŸ™ˆ Its been 24hrs, still getting used to it but hey ... This is me on my Healthy Hair Journey πŸ˜ŠπŸ’‡πŸ½ *

Hey Cuties! πŸ’• This post is not even close to the amount of protective styles I wear. Like to see more and even videos on how I install my #wigs and crochet braids!

When searching for your protective style there are 4 MAJOR components that will keep your natural hair flourishing: |AFFORDABILITY| LONGEVITY |INSTALLATION | REGULAR MAINTENANCE |

_____ ❗️AFFORDABILITY: You don't have to break the bank to look good. Is the hair cost effective? Is the hair worth the price? Are there deals? LOOK FOR THOSE BUNDLE DEALS!! Aliexpress has so many good vendors but also support small businesses! Local hair vendors.
_____ ❗️LONGEVITY: A LOT of my #quickweave hair is from the beauty store and it lasts up to 2 weeks, maybe 3 if I take care of it. Good quality hair should make it to at least 6 months before you have to buy another bundle. #crochetbraids last me at least 2 months for me.
_____ ❗️INSTALLATION: Are your braids too tight? Too loose? Is it pulling at your hair? Are you experiencing headaches? Is it making you itch? If so REMOVE IT IMMEDIATELY. It's not worth the integrity of your hair.
_____ ❗️REGULAR MAINTENANCE: Are you still taking care of your hair under your wigs? Are you moisturizing your hair ? Washing your braids and letting them dry COMPLETELY? Are you leaving your hair in for more than 6 weeks? Are you deep conditioning before installing?

Hey guys! So, I've finally finished @drphoenyx's book and frankly, I didn't want it to end. It was such an incredibly remarkable book for me particularly because I do not have a science background and she makes me want to take cosmetology course. No jokes! I learnt so so much about the science of natural hair and if possible I would like everyone that is genuinely interested in growing and maintaining their natural hair to read it. (It's on Amazon) πŸ‘πŸ‘
In subsequent posts, I'll be sharing some of the things I learnt and how I plan to implement them. But in the meantime, here are some major takeaways: βœ” Your natural hair growth potential is determined by five INTERNAL factors. (This means there's no 'magic hair growth product'. It's all marketing. The job of your products is simply to manage and maintain the hair that you have produced internally so it doesn't fall off. Length retention anyone? It as simple as that!) πŸ”‘
βœ” Prepoo is important and super necessary to prevent hydral fatigue. Try not to skip it every time you wash your hair. (Me: Cries in two years of not prepooing! 😭😭😫) βœ”Your hair is made up of 90% of protein which means you need regular protein treatments ( 4 - 6 weeks intervals) to rebuild and strengthen hair which might be damaged through regular manipulation, color, e.t.c. πŸ”‘
βœ” Finally, moisture - protein balance is everything. Moisturize your hair EVERYDAY. Use humectants, do weekly deep conditioning, co-wash. Whatever you do, make sure your hair is hydrated. πŸ”‘
Guys, I'm currently suffering from too much information (TMI) and I will need sometime to take it all in. Meanwhile, anyone has any book recommendations on black/natural hair (history, science, business, complexity)? Hit me up! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Hey Yall 😘 lets talk shedding. Let me start by saying that EVERYONE SHEDS HAIR, its natural, its life. However some of us experience it to a point where we can't prosper during our natural hair journey. My shedding used to be out of this world because I wear A LOT of protective styles and if not removed properly you will experience unnecessary hair loss. To combat this hair loss/shedding I have started to wear my wigs NO MORE THAN 4 WEEKS at a time. I wear u-part wigs so whipping that baby off and on is a breeze.
Another major πŸ”‘ is I don't sew my braids down anymore under my wigs, the thread would be drying and too rough on my hair. I GENTLY pin them with hair pins. Make sure to check the ends of your hair pins and make sure there are no ragged ends to snatch your hair.
The pic displayed above is how much hair I collected detangling AND washing my hair afterwards. I also would like to add that moisturizing your braids under your protective styles will combat shedding. My hair balls used to be massive but after trying these tips the last few months I've been able to reduce shedding. I hope this helps loves πŸ’•

One of the things @drphoenyx kept reiterating all through her book was moisture. Specifically, daily moisture. Whatever you do, make sure you moisturise and this took me down memory lane of the early days of my natural hair journey. I remember how I was so eager to grow my hair that I moisturized day and night unfailingly and in less than two years, I was able to retain a significant length. But in the quest for shortcuts and whatnot, I began to slack gradually until where I am right now. 😩😩😩
In the last couple of days, I found myself reaching out for a spray bottle just to spritz my hair at any given opportunity. Best believe, it has a permanent spot on my workstation. I'm hoping I can go back to that time when I moisturized religiously. πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
Moisture Tip: Leave your hair out when taking a shower. The steam from the shower is enough to add a bit of moisture in the mornings. When you're done, just seal and you're good to go. During the course of the day, keep a travel spray bottle with you at all times. The presence of the spray bottle will remind you to moisturize even when you forget. πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

So, I've been binge-watching the @greenbeautychannel (thanks for the reminder @thelovelycurl πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘Š) which has been incredibly insightful and educational and one of the things I'm going to start implementing is the #ricewater rinse using the fermentation method . So, I'm going to be soaking some rice today against my next wash day next week. πŸƒπŸƒ
Apparently, rice water is used by the Yao women of China who have the longest hair in the world. As expected, they eat organic foods, have an active lifestyle and wash their hair with natural spring water which is filled with tons of nutrients that stimulate growth. They also do regular rice water rinses. πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
According to a study carried out in Japan, rice water has a compound (inosital) which helps increase elasticity and decrease your hair's surface friction which reduces knots and tangles. Possibly the best thing about rice water is that inosital stays in your hair even after you've rinsed out so you begin to see the difference almost immediately. πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ
So, has anyone used rice water before? What method did you use and how did it go?
(P.S: Get ready for a lot of science. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰)

Based on my last post, I think we can all agree that going natural does not exactly start from transitioning or big chopping as there are certain things you need to get right first.
⏩Educate yourself. If possible, read about the science of black hair and what makes it unique from other hair types. Know the importance of protein and moisture and how to strike a balance. Try not to spend all your time reading about products. Educate yourself first on how to grow your hair from inside. ⏩Then decide if it is all worth it. Because, by the time you're done reading, it will look very daunting and seem like a full time job. Decide if you really want to go that route. ⏩Set your goals. Ideally it should be healthy hair before anything else but there's really no crime in desiring long hair. ⏩Map out action points. Now, based on your study/research, you will know that to get really long hair, you need to eat right, exercise frequently and reduce stress. Now, take a look at your schedule and evaluate yourself. Does that any of that fit into it especially if you haven't exactly been taking them very serious before now? ⏩Evaluate your current hair situation. Can you work it what you have or do you need to chop it all off and start afresh? ⏩Build a 'convenient' hair regimen and stick to it. If you can only manage a full wash day once a month, then so be it. Find out what works for you and be consistent.
