2014: Happy 40th Anniversary Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach!
For the 40th anniversary, the Official Program had an entire special section dedicated to the history of the race and “Four Decades of the Roar in the Shore.” It included winners, fun facts, and neat historical information like six-wheeled cars, female drivers who had raced the streets, and robotic cars. Anything and everything you’d want to know about America’s longest running street race.
With a schedule that was becoming a bit constant, the six-race weekend had exciting shows for everyone. The Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race saw MTV star @bdavv win, @pirelliwc GT, GTS, and GTA classes saw @johnny_oconnell3 hit the podium, and, at the end of the year, snag his third series championship. The IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (TUSC) was the inaugural season of @imsa_racing’s new series created out of a merger of the Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series. The Long Beach race was titled the Tequila Patron SportsCar Showcase and 2018 Grand Marshal @scottpruett01 earned another podium here along with teammate @memorojas15. @robbygordon, who brought his “Formula Off-Road” back for a second year, took the highest spot on its podium. @gabbychaves dominated the Indy Lights race and for the big show, @mc026 took checkers for the second time in the Streets of Long Beach, and the newly titled Verizon @indycar Series World Champion was @12willpower.
The Expo was full of family friendly activities, and the pre-show production was inspiring as always, and the fans? Turned out in droves for the best weekend in SoCal. #44YearsStrong #TGPLB
