From sunbathing on the beaches of Santraginus V to warding off the noxious fumes of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, there is nothing this bathroom necessity can't do. It can even dry you off if it is clean enough! Towel Day honours the work of Douglas Adams, in particular his fabulous "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", with the annual event quickly mustered up two weeks after his death in 2001. Today, Adams' fans all over the world carry a towel with them whenerever they go in his honour.
