I'm really proud of these medals, and not only because the run was for such an amazing cause - supporting veterans.
First medal is for finishing.
Ask me a few years ago to run a 5k, heck to WALK OUTSIDE in the freezing cold and I would have laughed at you.
It was so cold and wet that they announced at the start “we changed the course a little because we assume you didn’t come to run an OCR, and you likely just want to run rather than swim this 5k”
It was cold, it was wet, and it was raining. One area had a slowdown due everyone squeezing around a foot-deep puddle, I thought ‘what the heck’ and ran right through the middle.
Second medal is for coming in third for my age group (F30-34)
First I thought ‘this doesn’t count. I came in 3 of 8, 37.5% chance to win in such a small group’. But you know what, I’m still proud of it. I pushed hard, I ran my fastest 5k, and for that I’m proud of the medal.
I’ll use this as motivation to work even harder and run even faster for my next race.
Goal: sub 30min 5k
Sadly I checked the results and the 2nd place winner only beat me by 25 seconds…
I’ll beat her next time.
