Went to the bank this morning, came out to find an older gentleman with the hood up on his Buick LeSabre. Cranked, but no start. He said it had happened before to him last week. Looked it over and the wiring harness was in horrible shape. I found partially melted pigtails, wires cut, exposed wires, wires twisted together and electrical taped. No solder, no heat shrink, a bunch of shade tree looking work. He named several local shops and the work they had performed, pretty shameful. Luckily I had my VERUS Pro with me. Scanned and found a TPS and knock sensor code. Scoped the TPS, had power and was producing a signal. Obviously there was a break or short in the signal wire between the sensor and ECM or there was an ECM issue. Nothing I could really do in the parking lot to get him back on the road, unfortunately. Hate seeing people taking advantage of others in this industry. No wonder people mistrust and have a hatred for mechanics/techs.
