Small, but mighty.
Silas Oliver Richard Allen Hawkins entered our world, a bolt of lightning carrying him to our arms. He was born on January 23, 2018, at 4:05 PM, after less than thirty minutes of second stage labor. His birth weight was an even 4 pounds, with lungs, and all other organs fully developed, and no other abnormalities. He was crying healthily after delivery, and give kangaroo care immediately.
Mama is resting well, after careful attendance by the Maternity care team here at Providence Portland. She will be watched for another few days until all of her vital signs are stable. Her BP has remained at normal levels after delivery, and we are enormously grateful for that. She was a champion of the highest caliber.
Thank you for those who interceded on behalf of our well being over the past five days. We are infinitely grateful to you for your empathy, compassion, and kindness. We are also grateful to the nurses, doctors, and attendants who guided her through this traumatic time. Their professionalism and care helped to facilitate a smooth and comforting experience.
We hope that Silas will, like you all, be strong, healthy, wise, and kind.
