A mosaic portrait of performance artist, painter, and sculptor Zhang Huan by Chuck Close, one of twelve commissioned mosaics by Close found at the 86th St. subway station of the Second Avenue line in the Upper East Side. Zhang is perhaps best known for 'To Add One Meter to an Anonymous Mountain' (1995) a performance piece in which nude bodies layer themselves one by one a top each other until they are stacked to a height of one meter and for 'Family Tree' (2001) in which calligraphers write on his face, eventually covering his entire visage with ink.
Embarrassingly, the portrait's label misspelled Zhang's name, and the error was reportedly spotted by Zhang himself. The label has since been fixed.
