2010 Abbaye de Lerins Vin de Pays Mediteranee Saint Honorat Syrah
My rating: 88
My price: $10 from @winebid
Really into the story behind this wine and the cool bottle that is thin and tall and won’t fit in my wine fridge. Produced by actual monks (see photos from their website) from the Cistercian monastery on the island of Saint-honorat just outside of Cannes in Provence, France. The monastery dates back to around the year 410.
Definitely a warmer climate Syrah with heat evident on the nose and palate, despite coming in at only 14.5% according to the label. Really nice rustic nose of blackberry, current, and oriental spices. On the palate, this is nicely balanced and drinking close to or at peak in my opinion. This is a surprisingly full bodied red that begs for food due to the acidity. Black fruits, iron, and spices intermix on a nice finish. Recommend regardless, but definitely a rebuy at $10. —————————
