#TalkingCatReads (fiction) The Witching Hour by Anne Rice, book #23 yr 2018 (14th book on my #18for2018 TBR List)
An epic story of the Mayfair witches and their disembodied entity, a spirit named Lasher. The novel spans 500 years and 13 generations. The Mayfairs were blessed with riches yet cursed by their familiar who picks one female in each generation. It covers history, horror, romance and mystery.
I had this on my TBR List for quite some time and I'm glad it's done because it is a doorstopper. Initially daunting but after a few pages I was lost in the supernatural world created by the author. Extremely dark, deeply disturbing (you may want to stick this in the freezer à la Joey of Friends) yet so engaging and atmospheric. (Anne Rice can really write!) This is not for everyone-- it has murder, incest, bone-chilling witchcraft---- did I mention this book is disturbing?
Unfortunately it has a cliffhanger ending so I need to read the other 2 in the future. Ironic that I ticked this off my TBR List and added 2 more. 😵
